Today is the 53rd anniversary of "the day the music died." A plane carrying Buddy Holly, the Big Bopper and Ritchie Valens crashed in Iowa breaking the hearts of countless teenagers and changing the course of rock & roll history forever.
From the distance created by time, we can discover the heritage of that extraordinary era is more than just the million-sellers everyone remembers. Yet we realize the spirit of the old music, brash and yet innocent in the same breath, was a symbol of an era waiting to bust loose from their constraints.
Inside you will find a medley; not just any medley but a 34-minute non-stop reminder of what was and a hint of what might have been.

"The Curse" started with Holly's death and continues to this very day. It seems the music didn't actually die on February 3, 1959. It couldn't have because so many people connected in even the smallest way with Buddy Holly – musicians, producers and screenwriters – continued to pass away, some of them in the most bizarre and tragic fashion.
For the past four years, regular visitors to this web site have seen me go on and on and on about the man who brought Streamingoldies.com to life. They have read what he's done to bring my ideas to fruition and they've seen me rave about his remarkable patience in dealing with someone (me) who will never be mistaken for a computer whiz.
If you know Bob (Shabby) Skold even a little, you know he is one of the most gentle and peaceful men to ever walk this planet. You know he has an infectious sense of humor and you know – you must certainly know – he understands the meaning of loyalty and true friendship better than most.
But maybe you don’t know something else about him. He has an enormous amount of intestinal fortitude. In plain terms, Bob Skold has guts and courage. So it came as no surprise to me when he told me he had created a new site; a blog, to be exact, and while writing a blog doesn't qualify as courageous, what his blog is about certainly does.
Chondrosarcoma. The word itself is frightening. The reality of what it means is even worse. It is a type of bone cancer that develops in cartilage cells. It also happens to be a disease which has afflicted a man I am proud to say I love.
