Carl Dobkins, Jr. (“My Heart Is An Open Book”) is 67


Stephen Foster, known as the “father of American music” (“Oh! Susanna”, “Camptown Races”, “My Old Kentucky Home”, “Beautiful Dreamer” “Old Folks at Home” {“Swanee River”}) died destitute in a New York City hospital---1864

Rock Factoid: Foster, confined to bed with a fever, had fallen after trying to get up. He fell over a washbasin next to his bed, shattering it and gouged his head. It took three hours to get him to the hospital, and in that era before transfusions and antibiotics, he passed away after three days.

Rock Factoid: All future work on the film was done in the basement of Apple Headquarters at 3 Savile Row and not Abbey Road Studios, as many think.
Later in the month, the band took the stairs up to the Apple roof for the now famous Rooftop Concert.

Citing them as “obscene,” Scotland Yard confiscated eight John Lennon lithographs from a London art gallery---1970

Jimmy Buffett's plane was shot at by Jamaican police---1996

Rock Factoid: The ‘Hemisphere Dancer’ was carrying Buffett, U2’s Bono, and Island Records CEO Chris Blackwell. Police suspected it was smuggling drugs. No one was hurt, although there were a few bullet holes in the plane.
Rock Factoid #2: Buffett used the incident as the inspiration for a song titled“Jamaica Mistaica”.

I too, have found "This Week In Music History" to be an enjoyable read each and every week. Always informative, not only bringing back great memories but learning new things about how music and the people involved have made such a huge impact on all of our lives.
