One of Phil Spector's sons has praised a documentary that depicts the convicted homicidal music producer as a sociopath and a narcissist.
The Agony and the Ecstasy of Phil Spector is based on a three and a half hour interview conducted for the BBC before the music icon's first trial for murdering a struggling actress at his mansion in 2003.
At first glance it is hard to imagine anyone objecting to plans to demolish a street of dilapidated Victorian two-up-two downs in a neglected part of Liverpool.
But when Beatles fans realized the plans included the destruction of drummer Ringo Starr's birthplace, they accused the council of cultural vandalism bordering on the criminal.
Gallup's 2010 Confidence in Institutions poll finds Congress ranking dead last out of the 16 institutions rated this year. Eleven percent of Americans say they have "a great deal" or "quite a lot" of confidence in Congress, down from 17% in 2009. The Gallup poll was conducted July 8-11, shortly before Congress passed a major financial regulatory reform bill, which President Obama signed into law this week.
We have just one question.
This November, Backbeat Books will publish December 8, 1980: The Day John Lennon Died , a new book commemorating the 30th anniversary of the death of John Lennon. Written by New York Times bestselling author Keith Elliot Greenberg, the book is a minute-by-minute account of that tragic day, tracking all of the events leading up to the horrible moment when Mark David Chapman calmly fired his Charter Arms .38 into the rock icon – a shocking act of violence the world is still coming to grips with.
The Defects of Obamacare
By Judge Andrew P. Napolitano
There are four constitutional defects in the healthcare law recently signed by President Obama.
The statute has many odd parts to it that are also subject to challenge, like the federal takeover of student loans, the creation of a healthcare army, which includes members of the states’ National Guard, and the hiring of 16,000 new IRS agents. But the main constitutional violations address what the Congress has ordered the States to do and what it has ordered individuals to do.
Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it George Santayana
It took half a century to transform Kent State from an obscure teachers college into the second largest university in Ohio, with 21,000 students and an impressive array of modern buildings on its main campus. But it took only thirteen seconds to convert the traditionally conformist campus into a bloodstained symbol of the rising student rebellion against the Nixon Administration and the war in Southeast Asia.
"Thirteen seconds of gunfire at a relatively unknown campus in northeastern Ohio ended the lives of four young people, and permanently altered the lives of countless others. The victims' families, injured survivors, guardsmen, eyewitnesses, and politicians were immediately and directly affected. Many Americans who were shocked by the shootings began to see domestic turmoil in a different light. Our society, deeply divided before the Kent State incident, was in its aftermath completely polarized."
J. Gregory Payne, Ph.D."You know, you see these bums, you know, blowin' up the campuses. Listen, the boys that are on the college campuses today are the luckiest people in the world, going to the greatest universities, and here they are, burnin' up the books, I mean, stormin' around about this issue, I mean, you name it - get rid of the war, there'll be another one." Richard Nixon, New York Times, May 2, 1970
TIN SOLDIERS AND NIXON COMING WE'RE FINALLY ON OUR OWN THIS SUMMER I HEAR THE DRUMMING
FOUR DEAD IN OHIO
Americans can be a proud bunch, especially when it comes to boasting about their community or state. Other areas of the country may have something special but by God, they don't have what we have.
We lead the nation in organic farming.
We lead the nation in energy efficency.
We lead the nation in the production of sweet potatoes.
Every state leads the nation in some category so we all have bragging rights about something ... But one thing we don't boast about is the amount of money our state rings up in pork-barrel spending. Nope, that one we sweep under the carpet and hope no one notices.
Or maybe you don't know how much your senators and congressmen are costing U.S. taxpayers. Here's your chance to find out.
Without any apparent authority the Census Bureau has expanded its information gathering activities. It has no Constitutional authority for that, in fact the Bureau is violating the 4th Amendment to the Bill of Rights by suggesting that Americans are "obligated" to provide any personal information whatsoever to government.
The video inside itemizes the fundamental legal questions that the Census Bureau refuses or fails to answer about its collection and use of personal information from every American.
He may not have been your typical rock & roll star (although he did have a Top 10 hit) but he was most definitely a part – a very special part – of our childhood. Fess Parker, the actor best known for playing American folk heroes Davy Crockett and Daniel Boone, has died at the age of 85.
Parker, who became a successful winery owner and real estate developer after retiring from Hollywood in the 1970's, died Thursday at his home outside Santa Barbara, California, of natural causes.
The Virtual Wall provides a web site for memorials to those 58,249 women and men who are named on "The Wall", the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC, USA; those military persons who gave the "ultimate sacrifice" for their country. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington was built from private donations collected by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund. The Wall was dedicated in 1982, and completed in 1984 with the addition of the "Three Servicemen Statue." Since its completion, The Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington has belonged to the people of the United States of America and has been maintained by the U. S. National Park Service.
On The Virtual Wall, visitors may leave tributes, letters, poems, photos, and other memorials to someone named on The Wall for other visitors to view. The goal is to provide an environment like The Wall itself, with the dignity and respect those named on The Wall have earned. There are no flashy or noisy distractions, no commercials, and no fee to publish a memorial.
I caught a Biography Channel special on the late Sam Kinison the other night. The man was a comic genius. He was loud – an understatement if ever there was one – but he was a very funny man who understood primal scream therapy better than anyone.
Look inside and witness his 1985 appearance on the David Letterman Show.
